Detectors Heat detectors must be rated at least 15C above expected temperatures. Positioning and Location of Detectors Shall be installed: All areas of the building and accessible spaces. Top of Stairwells, hoists, lifts and skylights used for ventilation. Floor landings of all stairways. Within 1.5m of a fire door that does not have detection on the other side. Under decks, mezzanine floors and landings over 1.5mtrs wide. Under canopies and balconies exceeding 1.5 m Under appendages where combustible materials are stored or a vehicle can be stored. Under duct hoods over cookers that exceed 1.5m Within 500mm of an apex. No closer than 1m from air conditioning delivery points. Not less than 200mm from a wall. Joists, Beams Purlins etc Cleaners and under stairs cupboards Wardrobes over 6 m³ Wardrobes less than 6 m³ that are not vented by an area greater than 0.2m³ Cupboards over 1.5m³ containing electrical switchboards or where electrical or gas appliances are used insitu. Cupboards over 3 m³ unless vented at the top by an orifice greater than 0.2m Partial coverage of a building is not permitted except the following spaces: Concealed spaces that are fire isolated and don’t include Combustible materials. Space below the lowest floor which has no access Concealed spaces above ceilings less than 800m with fire resistant slabs above. WC’s off a protected room where walls are not full height. Spacing Heat detectors will be located in the best position for exposure to fires and hot gases. Indicators On detector or Remote Indication LED's must be clearly visible under normal conditions Other than analogue systems, concealed heads require remote indication.
